Asbury United Methodist Church
Harrisonburg, VA | SF: 12,000 | General Contractor: Skyline Roofing, Inc.
The Problem
Asbury United Methodist Church faced significant roof deterioration across multiple sections. The worn EPDM membrane and insulation raised concerns about water infiltration, energy efficiency, and structural integrity. Additionally, some areas exhibited drainage issues, and the slate roofing had aged beyond repair, further exposing the church to potential leaks.
The Solution:
Skyline Roofing provided a comprehensive re-roofing solution for Asbury United Methodist Church, tailoring the approach to each section of the roof. In areas with the EPDM membrane and insulation, we removed the existing layers down to the deck, replaced deteriorated insulation, and installed new polyiso insulation to improve energy efficiency. We then installed a fully adhered 60-mil black EPDM system, complete with flashings, terminations, and tapered panels for better drainage. For sections with slate roofing, we replaced the old slate with EcoStar Majestic Slate in Midnight Gray, along with new underlayment and flashing. We also added Kynar-finished coping caps, drip edges, and retrofit drains for long-term performance and a clean finish.
This roof replacement not only addressed the existing issues but also provided long-term protection through enhanced drainage solutions and energy-efficient insulation. With a 20-year manufacturer's material and labor warranty, plus a 2-year contractor warranty, Asbury United Methodist Church now has a durable, weather-resistant roof. The new system protects the building’s structure and contents from water damage while maintaining its historical appearance with a sleek slate installation.
