North Fork Middle School of Shenandoah Public Schools was a transformative roofing replacement project with the aim of enhancing the efficiency, durability, and integrity of their facility's roofing system. The project's comprehensive scope featured innovative insulation strategies, advanced membrane materials, and meticulous installation techniques to ensure long-lasting protection and improved performance.
The work began with the reinforcement of the existing roofing system through a 2” poly iso insulation overlay, mechanically fastened through both the existing insulation and steel deck. This enhancement aimed to enhance energy efficiency and thermal insulation. Specific areas around mechanical units and key access points were fortified using 1.5” poly iso insulation and a sturdy 120 psi ½” HD Coverboard, mechanically fastened to ensure structural stability and protection.
Incorporating modern roofing practices, a .060 mil TPO invisiweld mechanically fastened white membrane was installed, offering exceptional weather resistance and durability. This membrane contributes significantly to the overall longevity of the roofing system. Notably, the gym roof received a special upgrade with two layers of 2.5” poly iso insulation adhered to the acoustical metal panel. This addition enhanced thermal protection and energy efficiency, with a seamless .060 mil TPO membrane providing a waterproof barrier.
Attention to water drainage was evident in the installation of tapered insulation crickets around the roof drains, minimizing standing water risks and prolonging the roofing system's life. Additionally, all drains were replaced with new retrofit drain inserts, ensuring optimal water evacuation. The project was completed with a refined touch—24 GA kynar finished shop-fabricated gravel stop edge metal was installed at all perimeter edges, enhancing both visual appeal and structural strength.
