Problem:
The new Velocity Urgent Care facility in Harrisonburg, VA, required a durable and efficient roofing system to ensure long-term protection and energy efficiency. The challenge was to integrate various components seamlessly on a structurally sloped wood deck while providing safe access and effective water drainage.
Solution:
Our team delivered a comprehensive roofing solution tailored to meet the facility’s unique needs. The project began with the installation of a Bilco 2’6” x 3’ insulated roof hatch, complete with a Ladder-Up post for safe and easy roof access. To enhance insulation and energy efficiency, we installed two layers of 20 PSI polyiso insulation (R-25), ensuring optimal thermal performance.
Addressing water drainage, we incorporated ½” per foot crickets between the scuppers, facilitating efficient water flow. The roofing system featured a mechanically fastened white 60 mil TPO membrane, induction welded to meet the manufacturer’s stringent specifications for durability and weather resistance. We also installed 24-gauge, Kynar finish, shop-fabricated gravel stop edge metal on the parapet walls for added protection.
For effective water management, we included (8) TPO-coated metal scuppers and (4) leader heads with downspouts, directing water safely to grade. A TPO walkway at the roof hatch ensured safe movement across the roof surface, while the Safety Yellow Bilco Bil-Guard Hatch Rail System provided additional safety measures.
