Laurel Ridge Community College

Luray, VA | 8,500 SF | General Contractor: Kjellstrom and Lee

A visionary project for Laurel Ridge Community College with Kjellstrom and Lee. Our comprehensive approach on this project prioritized durability, energy efficiency, and aesthetics. Starting with the upper roof, we laid a sturdy foundation of Dens Deck over the structural steel deck, reinforced with a self-adhering vapor barrier for year-round protection.

Energy conscious design takes center stage with two layers of polyiso insulation on the upper roof, while tapered insulation on the lower roof ensures proper drainage. Adding a touch of innovation, we incorporated a paver and pedestal system on the lower roof, creating versatile rooftop space for a variety of purposes.

The crowning glory is the full adherence of a 60 mil non-reinforced EPDM membrane, complemented by custom flashing. Safety and accessibility are paramount with EPDM walk pads and a Bilco L-50 roof hatch system. The project’s precision extends to the finest details with 24 gauge standard color Kynar finished snap lock roofing system over the vestibule area. Also, this precision extends to the shop fabricated .050 standard color 2-coat Kynar finish aluminum drip edges around the roof perimeter and box gutters with smooth 4”x 6” downspouts down to grade.
